UT Health East Texas Athens Volunteers serves as a non-profit organization which helps the staff at UT Health East Texas Athens. While no one would say that to be ill is a happy time, it can be made much easier for patients, doctors, and nurses with the help of volunteers who can relieve the load of the more mundane duties. Both male and female volunteers are required for all positions. Helpful duties include:

 

• Providing a welcoming smile at the Information Desk where directions and guidance are often needed;

• Working in the hospital Gift Shop;

• Transporting patients via wheelchair from one area of the hospital to another, and helping with the movement of patient personal items when the patient is admitted or discharged from the hospital;

• Transporting medical records and/or lab work between departments; and

• At the direction of doctors or nurses, providing information to concerned patient relatives or visitors.
