First Baptist Church’s Helping Hands Children’s Clothes Ministry organizes the yearly effort to get the uniforms to children who can’t afford them.

On opening day, lines typically form before the doors open, with students and parents who arrive at the building on College Street, located behind the FBC Recreation Outreach Center.

​

The Children’s Clothes Closet was established in 1999 to provide clothes for children from birth to sixth grade. The group is always looking for “good, clean” children’s clothes, coats,and shoes. Beginning a few years ago, a special day has been set aside near back-to-school time.

 

This is a service for parents and grandparents who can’t afford to buy their children's uniforms. 

Each student gets one new uniform and one used uniform.

At the end of the spring semester,each Athens school campus has a uniform drive to collect uniforms that students have outgrown.  Volunteers go through the clothes to sort them and get them ready for the distribution in August.
