Henderson County Food Pantry

The Henderson County Food Pantry is a non-profit organization staffed entirely by volunteers. The purpose of the pantry is to distribute food and other essentials (soap, detergent, and toiletries) to individuals or families in times of crisis. Approximately 1,000 individuals are assisted each month. Reasons for assistance vary . . . people starting new jobs/living on marginal wages/unemployment, elderly living on fixed income/illnesses, etc.  The Food Pantry is supported by private donations, churches, social/civic organizations, as well as county-wide food drives.

Volunteers are needed to sack food, re-stock shelves, etc. Regular volunteers work one day every other week. Each day, one volunteer will interview clients. Substitutes work as needed. Volunteer drivers are needed to pick up groceries; men are needed to unload delivery trucks. Persons responsible for ordering; scheduling workers, keeping financial records and coordinating the operation are performed by volunteer board members who also work as regular volunteers.

The Food Pantry is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.   Four or five volunteers are needed each day; more when deliveries are made, or prior to holidays. No special talents are required. Training is provided.
