C.A.S.A. is a private, non-profit agency that recruits volunteers to advocate in court for abused and neglected children involved in the foster care system.

 

Volunteers are assigned to children’s cases and they conduct investigations into the child’s circumstances. Along with supervision and direction, the volunteers attend court hearings, speaking to the best interests of the children.

 

Volunteers must undergo an initial 30 hours of training. Once assigned a case, volunteers meet with the children, foster and biological families, and attend court hearings. There is flexibility because of an individual’s schedule.  However, court hearings can be any day or time of the week between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
